Last years deservedly acclaimed chiller from Australia: (The Babadook) now on Netflix, is certainly worth a look. Widowed mum: Amelia (a wonderful and haggard: Essie Davis) works a shitty job at the hospital, and cares for her timid and odd six year old son: Sam ( Noah Wiseman). She gave birth to Sam after,on the way to the hospital driven by her husband in labor, they were involved in a car accident which killed her spouse .Heartbroken, she can't even seem to bring herself to celebrate Sam's birthdays because of the painful memories.
At home, Sam has trouble nightmares, is very needy and Amelia becomes increasingly stressed from lack of sleep and caring for the difficult boy. She keeps having drams about the accident, sees her dead husband at night and someone is speaking in a low gravely voice...."dook...dook."
One night, while reading Sam a bedtime story, she picks up a picture book she hadn't seen before called:(Mr Babadook) an odd, creepy looking picture book, with a rather scary looking fellow sporting a top hat and scissors for hands. When Amelia realizes this isn't any kiddy book, she gets rid of it. When the book keeps reappearing with the pages apparently changing to tell them Mr Babadook is coming to get them, things really heat up. As Amelia becomes more sleep deprived, the lines between reality and her imagination become blurred and you will be surpirsed where this ends up going.
If Tim Burton made a horror film, It would look like this.
You should see this very good movie.
